The Special Criminal Court has remanded in custody five men arrested in connection with the discovery of explosive materials in a Dublin apartment.
The five, who appeared at the court in Dublin’s Green Street amid tight security, are Garret Pigott (aged 25) Philipsburgh Terrace, Dublin 3, Gareth Byrne (aged 26) Park Crescent, Kimmage Dublin 12, Cormac Fitzpatrick (aged 22) Cathedral Walk, Monaghan, Co Monaghan, Jonathan Keogh (aged 23), Upper Sean McDermott Street, Dublin and Terry McConnell (aged 27), Tullymore Gardens, Andersontown, Belfast.
They are all charged with possession of explosive materials, contrary to the Offences against the State Act, at The Crescent, at an apartment Park West, Clondalkin, Dublin 22 on Tuesday, September 9 last.
Gareth Byrne, Garret Pigott, and Jonathon Keogh are further charged with membership of an illegal organisation styling itself the Irish National Liberation Army otherwise known as the INLA, within the state on September 9 last, contrary to the Offences against the State Act.
This morning the three-judge Special Criminal Court, of Mr Justice John MacMenamin presiding, sitting with Judge Joseph Matthews and Judge William Hamill remanded all five in custody to appear before next Thursday’s sitting of the Special Criminal Court.
None of the five men spoke during the proceedings, expect to confirm their identities after the charges were read to the court. No application for bail was made on the men’s behalf.
