Gardaí are investigating after five people were taken to hospital after consuming what gardaí believe to have been tainted drugs at a house party.

Ambulance personnel and gardaí were called to an apartment in Newcastle West, Co Limerick, in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Emergency Services arrived at the apartment in Market Court at around 4am after receiving a phone call that one person in the apartment had started to vomit uncontrollably.

Three women and two men, all aged in their late twenties to early thirties, were treated at University Hospital Limerick.

It is believed they had taken tainted drugs, possibly cocaine.

According to gardaí, the exact composition of the drugs consumed won't be known until an analysis of samples is completed.

The five people have been discharged from hospital and are recovering at home.

Gardaí at Newcastle West are investigating. Anyone with information can contact the garda incident room on 069-20650.
