Five people have been arrested after two massive drugs hauls in Dublin and Louth.

More than €4m worth of heroin has been seized in Co Louth while cocaine with an estimated value of €2m was found in south Dublin.

Gardaí from the National Drugs Unit stopped and searched an articulated truck on the M1 near Drogheda last night.

It was found to contain 27 kilos of heroin, worth €4.05m.

A 40-year-old man and 43-year-old woman were arrested at the scene, while another man, also 40, was detained in a follow-up search.

They are being held at Coolock and Drogheda garda stations under Drug Trafficking legislation.

Separately, two men have been arrested following the discovery of 32 kilos of cocaine, worth €2.24m at a house on Stillorgan Road in Donnybrook in Dublin.

Two men aged 27 and 37 were arrested at the scene and are currently detained at Blackrock garda station.
