Former Taoiseach Garret FitzGerald will tonight address a Fine Gael meeting on the Lisbon Treaty in Cork.

The event is one of the opposition party’s series of 30 national public meetings on the charter which began in Dublin last week.

The Government has yet to announce a date for the referendum but the Taoiseach Bertie Ahern is believed to favour early June.

Fine Gael is advocating a yes vote but said both sides will be represented at the meetings by politicians, academics and businesspeople.

Dr FitzGerald will also address a Fine Gael meeting in Dublin on April 7.

The party’s director of elections, MEP Gay Mitchell said he will run the campaign like a general election.
