Ireland's first baby of the New Year was born at almost the stroke of midnight.
The healthy baby girl, named Emily, was delivered at the National Maternity Hospital, Holles Street, Dublin at about five seconds past midnight.
In the Rotunda a baby boy was delivered at 24 minutes past midnight, weighing in at just over seven pounds, while in Cavan General Hospital a baby was born at 12.45.
"[She's] feeling good and she's settling in well and sleeping at the moment," said Emily's mother, Monica Duff. "[I'm] just excited to be through it, and she's happy and healthy."
