Finlay would welcome Garda involvement after 'disgusting' CRC revelations
Chief executive of Barnardos Fergus Finlay has said he would welcome Garda involvement, if that's what it took to get to the bottom of the latest CRC revelations.
It emerged yesterday that more than €740,000 was taken from a charity fund at the Central Remedial Clinic to pay for the pension of former chief executive Paul Kiely.
The HSE told the Public Accounts Committee that it may ask the Gardaí for advice on how to deal with the financial set-up at the clinic, and will also attempt to recover some of the money.
Fergus Finlay of Barnardos branded the latest details "disgusting".
"We need to make people fundamentally accountable, and if that means having their collars felt by the Gardaí, I'd welcome that," he said.
If a complaint is made to gardaí, Commissioner Martin Callinan will appoint a senior officer to examine the file and then report back on whether it warrants a criminal investigation.
Paul Kiely is also to be called back before the committee.
