The final tally in Carlow-Kilkenny gives Fianna Fáil's Bobby Aylward a 28% share of the vote.

Final tally in Carlow-Kilkenny

A final tally of votes in the Carlow-Kilkenny by-election has Fianna Fáil on 28%, almost seven points ahead of Fine Gael on 21%.

Bobby Aylward was the favourite, and looks set to win, but David FitzGerald will be looking to benefit from several candidates' transfers.

Sinn Féin's candidate Kathleen Funchion has retained her third place comfortably, with 16%.

Renua Candidate Patrick McKee picked up 9.4% of votes according to the tallymen, and Labour's Willie Quinn got 6.5%.
