Fianna Fáil tables legislation to allow Garth Brooks concerts

Fianna Fáil has formally tabled legislation aimed at saving the Garth Brooks concerts.

The party has officially introduced a Bill which would allow the Minister for the Environment to overturn certain planning decisions by local authorities.

It would therefore give Phil Hogan the right to overrule Dublin City Council and grant a licence for all five Croke Park gigs to go ahead.

Fianna Fáil's Timmy Dooley says the current laws do not allow for any sort of review and need to change.

"This Bill would provide a stop-gap measure or an interim measure to allow the Minister for the environment to review a decision that had been taken by a local authority, but would furthermore allow the Minister to take into account the economic impact of such an event not taking place, and the reputational damage to the country from a tourism perspective," he said.
