Fianna Fáil slam mere five-hour water charges debate

Fianna Fáil is criticising the way the water charges legislation is to be debated in the Dail next week.

The Water Services Bill 2013 is to be debated in the Dail next Wednesday for five hours.

When passed, the legislation will lead to the introduction of water charges and the transfer of the water network to Irish Water.

Fianna Fáil's Environment spokesman Barry Cowen says the Government is out of order in not giving time for full debate on the issue:

"It shows great disregard and much contempt not only for the Dail but for members of the opposition of all parties and none, and indeed the electorate."

"I recognise the fact that [the Government] lost the Troika and had a bounce in the polls, but to ram this through in the month of Christmas and think nobody will take notice is completely out of order."
