Fianna Fáil: Government's cost saving attempts 'more spin'

Sean Fleming, is calling for details of the redundancy plan to be published

Fianna Fáil has described the government's latest attempt to cut costs in the public service as "more spin" and "no substance".

Earlier it was announced that the cabinet had approved a new voluntary redundancy programme for public servants.

However, Fianna Fáil has said that the government has failed to provide any information on how the scheme will work.

The party's spokesperson on Public Expenditure and Reform, Sean Fleming, is calling for details of the redundancy plan to be published:





Elsewhere, ahead of a meeting of the Croke Park agreement's implementation body in coming weeks, unions are being told to engage with reform.

During meetings in recent days, the Taoiseach and Public Expenditure Minister have said they must approach public sector reform in a constructive and co-operative fashion.

It is in a bid to accelerate reforms.
