Fianna Fáil expected to introduce pre-election childcare package

The issue of childcare is set to dominate the agenda on the second day of Fianna Fáil's parliamentary party meeting in Co Cavan today.

The cost of childcare has already been identified as one of the main concerns for voters and there is growing speculation that the Government will introduce a package of measures in this year's budget aimed at alleviating the financial pressure on parents.

Last year, the Government introduced budget measures designed to help the marginalised after the issue dominated the annual Fianna Fáil parliamentary party meeting in Co Cork.

In 2003, the issue of one-off rural housing topped the agenda at the meeting and restrictions on such housing were subsequently relaxed.
