FG holding round-table talks with 17 TDs

Further talks are taking place aimed at reaching agreement on a new coalition Government.

Fine Gael is holding "round table" talks with 17 TDs, including independents and small parties.

One of those involved, independent Dublin Central TD Maureen O'Sullivan, said that homelessness is at the top of her agenda.

"I am inundated, every day, from people about to be evicted," she said.

"And the answer from the local authority constantly is no, that they do not have the housing to meet the demands.

"So therefore there are more and more people going into emergency accommodation."

Talks are expected to go on for several hours while TDs look to reach a deal on forming a new government.

But Fine Gael's Simon Coveney has suggested further talks will be needed after today: “We want to try and accommodate that, where possible,

“Obviously Fine Gael also brings a strong perspective to the discussions and so the Taoiseach has invited 17 people here today, that is the Green Party and 15 Independents.

“And I hope that we will be able to make this process work for everybody and listen to what they have to say.”
