FG: Gardaí concerned and confused by penalty points system

Fine Gael has claimed that gardaí are contacting their local TDs with serious concerns about the penalty points system.

The party said that it has been told that many drivers who have reached 12 points are still on the road because of loopholes in the system.

Fine Gael Transport Spokesperson Olivia Mitchell said some gardaí are so confused by the legislation that they do not know how to go about removing a licence from a driver who should be disqualified.

The revelations come just weeks before over 30 new penalty point offences are introduced.
