The Fine Gael front bench has unanimously endorsed Enda Kenny's proposal for a constitutional referendum to abolish the Seanad.

FG front bench backs plan to scrap Seanad

The Fine Gael front bench has unanimously endorsed Enda Kenny's proposal for a constitutional referendum to abolish the Seanad.

Party leader Mr Kenny has also received backing for his plans to reduce by up to 20 the number fo TDs in the Dáil, and to undertake a review of the electoral system.

The party says the front bench also discussed further proposals from Deputy Phil Hogan for other reforms of the political system which will be finalised and published shortly.
