FF support drops to same level as SF in new poll


A new opinion poll, the first of the year, has shown another drop in support for Fianna Fáil.

In a Red C survey carried out for Paddy Power, the party lies on 14% - the same as Sinn Féin - showing a drop of 3% compared to the final survey of last year.

Fine Gael is the most popular party on 37% of first preference votes, with Labour in second at 21%.

The Green Party has just 4% support. Independents are doing well on 12%.

The poll, conducted this week, shows Eamon Gilmore is the most popular choice to be next Taoiseach with 37% support, ahead of Enda Kenny on 27%.

Brian Cowen is at 10% with Gerry Adams just one point behind on 9%.
