FF: Gardaí 'hamstrung in their battle against criminals'

Fianna Fáil is calling for the Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan to appear before the Oireachtas Justice Committee, following the recent spate of violent killings.
Since the weekend, five people have died in attacks, two of them are believed to have been gangland killings.
Fianna Fáil's Justice Spokesperson, Niall Collins, said the public needs to be reassured that gardaí have the resources to deal with the spike in violent crime.
He said communities around the country are concerned that the gardaí may not be equipped to tackle crime in their area.
Mr Collins said: "We know that, for example, the Garda fleet is in a very run-down state where cars are being decommissioned almost on a daily basis, yet we have criminals travelling and crossing the countryside in the most modern and expensive of vehicles that they have at their disposal.
"So we find that An Garda Siochana are hamstrung in their fight against these roving criminals."
