A Fianna Fail County Councillor, who has been threatening to quit the party, has said he has no faith in its leader Micháel Martin.

In a scathing attack on Deputy Martin, Donegal Councillor Brendan Byrne said that if Fianna Fáil continues under its current leadership "it will not survive".

Councillor Byrne has opted to stay a member of the party for the time being, following a call at the weekend from Mr Martin.

However, he said the party and its leader have "failed miserably" to reconnect with the people.
