Fermoy on alert amid fears of further flooding in Cork
02/08/2008 - 08:49:44Fermoy in Co Cork remains on alert this morning amid fears that flooding may spread to the town from other areas.
There was extensive flooding in Mallow yesterday when the River Blackwater burst its banks following heavy rains.
There are no reports of any serious flooding in Mallow as of yet this morning, but precautionary measures have been put in place in high risk areas.
Meanwhile, recovery operations have been continuing in Newcastle West in Limerick after a month's worth of rain fell in just five hours on Thursday night.
Limerick County Council has issued a public notice advising residents to boil their drinking water before use.
Minister of State at the Office of Public Works, Martin Mansergh, visited the region last night.
