Two people, including a Garda officer, remain in custody in Co. Sligo in connection with drugs related activities in the north-west.

Female Garda remains in custody in criminal gang investigation

Two people, including a Garda officer, remain in custody in Co. Sligo in connection with drugs related activities in the north-west.

A female Garda in her early 30s, along with and a man in his 30s, were arrested in Sligo yesterday.

It's understood the Garda is based at a station in north Dublin city.

The arrests were part of an investigation by the Organised Crime Unit, and Sligo Gardaí, into a criminal gang in the north-west.

National Support Services were also involved in the operation.

The woman can be held for up to 24 hours, and the man, who is being held under section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, can be held for up to seven days.

Both are being questioned at Ballymote Garda Station.
