Fathers group wants transcripts taken in family law cases
The Unmarried and Separated Fathers of Ireland group has called for a record to be kept of all family law cases, either by stenographer or audio recording.
The call comes as the Government introduces new regulations easing the 'in camera' rule that restricts the people allowed to attend hearings like divorce and child custody cases.
At present, only those directly connected to the case can attend, but the new rules will allow people like family mediators and researchers to also be present.
The move follows concerns that the existing 'in camera' rule had prevented public debate about family law cases.
However, the Unmarried and Separated Fathers of Ireland group said the reforms did not go far enough and the Government should also allow transcripts of each case to be taken.
