Father 'loses 10-month fight for life' after horror crash in UK
An Irishman whose two children were killed in an horrific road crash has lost his 10-month battle for life, it has been reported.
Con Twomey sustained multiple injuries after driving on a two-week holiday with his wife, child and unborn baby in Devon last summer.
Their car was hit head-on by an apparently suicidal motorist.
Mr Twomey, 39, was transferred by air ambulance back to Ireland from a Devon hospital last year, but had remained on a life support machine.
The Irish Independent reported that he died yesterday with his family by his bedside.
The crash occurred in Hamelin Way, Torquay, on July 6 last year when the Twomey’s Volkswagen Golf and a Vauxhall Vectra were in collision.
It claimed the lives their 16-month-old son Oisin and their unborn baby - who was to be named Elber Marie.
She was due to have been born last December.
The driver of the Vectra, Marek Wojiechowski from Poland, was arrested by police at the scene before he was taken to hospital.
However, the 26-year-old died from his injuries later that day.
Mr Twomey’s wife Elber is now the sole survivor of the crash.
The 37-year-old, a respected teacher in north Cork, suffered severe back and pelvic injuries and it was several weeks before she could be informed of the scale of the tragedy.
Mr Wojiechowski lived in Torquay with his wife Agnieska and two young daughters.
He had reportedly left a suicide note, which was discovered by a friend after the fatal smash.
