Farming groups to meet politicians over tax reform

Farming organisations will appear before the Oireachtas Agriculture Committee later to give their views on the tax measures in the farming sector.

The Minister for Finance announced an Agri-Tax review as part of this year’s budget.

The purpose of the report is to analyse the benefits of the various tax schemes to the industry.

Members of the Irish Farmers’ Association and the Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers’ Association will discuss the system with committee members later.

"We're engaging with all the farming organisations, and this morning we'll meet with the IFA representatives and the ICMSA," said committee chairman, Andrew Doyle.

"[It's] a consultation on a review of the farm taxation system, with a view to ensuring that the structure of taxation … is user-friendly and fit for purpose for the 21st century."
