Farmhouse burgled two days after pair found dead
A rural farmhouse where two men died in a suspected murder-suicide has been burgled two days after the fatal shootings, police said.
Farmer Arthur Gibson, 61, and his worker Michael Murphy, 37, were discovered with fatal gunshot wounds in the property near the village of Glenarm, Co Antrim on Friday night.
It is understood Mr Murphy shot Mr Gibson before turning the gun on himself.
Police said the isolated property, where single man Mr Gibson had lived alone, has subsequently been broken in to.
Detectives have appealed for anyone who noticed suspicious activity around the Feystown Road house between 3pm yesterday and 7.30am today to come forward.
A Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) spokeswoman said scenes of crimes officers investigating the deaths had locked up the property at the conclusion of their work.
“Officers concluded their examination of the scene yesterday, secured the premises and left,” she said.
“Police had earlier recovered a firearm at the scene and removed a number of other items from the premises.”
The tight knit community in Glenarm has been left shocked by the events of Friday. Both men were well known in the village.
Mr Murphy had worked for Mr Gibson for many years.
Detectives have confirmed both men died from gunshot wounds and said they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.
Local people have been milking the cows at the dairy farm since Mr Gibson’s death.
Glenarm came to wider public attention earlier this year when severe late winter blizzards enveloped farms in the surrounding hills in a thick blanket of snow, killing thousands of livestock and cutting off many families for days.
