A lucky family syndicate have today collected a cheque for €2,307,937 at National Lottery offices in Dublin today.
They won the prize in the Lotto draw on Saturday, September 10.
The happy winners, who wish to keep their identity private, bought their ticket on the day of the draw in the Topaz Service Station in Athlone, Co Westmeath.
A spokeswoman for the group shared the happy news today,
"I was buying petrol at the Topaz and decided to do a Quick Pick for that night’s Lotto draw," she said.
"I wouldn’t be a regular player, I’d play the odd time.
"The next evening I was online and saw the news that a Quick Pick sold in the Topaz in Athlone won the jackpot. I thought: 'Hang-on - I bought a Quick Pick there!'.
"I checked the first line – nothing and the second line – nothing. But then the third – there were all the winning numbers! I couldn’t believe it!"
The lucky lady is sharing the jackpot with her family.
"We’re buying a house so this couldn’t have happened at a better time," she said.
"We’ll not need that mortgage now!"
Two ticketholders matched the first six numbers out of the drum on Saturday, September 10 to share that evening’s jackpot of over €4.6m.
The second winning ticketholder, who has yet to claim the prize, bought their ticket in Dunnes Stores, South Great Georges Street, Dublin 2.
Over €45m in Lotto jackpot and top prizes has been won by Westmeath ticketholders alone.
The biggest Lotto jackpot to be won in Westmeath was in May 2013 when Carol Loran and Kevin Geoghegan from Mullingar scooped a huge €10,651,567 after buying a €4 Quick Pick in Tesco in Mullingar.
Tonight’s Lotto jackpot is an estimated €3m.
