Families await emergency legislation to allow adoption of Russia children

TDs are being asked to pass emergency legislation to allow Irish families to adopt children from Russia.

The special bill will give 22 families six more months to finish the adoption process, after they were scuppered by a change in Russian law.

Children's minister Frances Fitzgerald says many of the families have already met the children they are hoping to adopt.

She is hopeful that the Bill will be passed through the Dáil as quickly as possible.
