Opposition ask for suspension of Dáil as sixth minister resigns
The Taoiseach Brian Cowen is absent from leader's questions in the Dáil today as he reshuffles his Cabinet after an exodus of five ministers in the past 24 hours.
Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Innovation, Batt O'Keefe is the latest expected to resign from Cabinet shortly.
The leaders of the Opposition have asked that the Dáil be suspended for an hour so that the Taoiseach can come in to the chamber and explain what is happening.
The Cork North West TD will not contest the general election either.
It means there are six vacancies at Cabinet but the Greens are reluctant to support the positions being filled.
Their Parliamentary Party is currently meeting with a tweet from Deputy Paul Gogarty that it is up to the Taoiseach "to see sense or go".
There have been animated scenes in the Dáil with Opposition leaders demanding answers from the Tánaiste Mary Coughlan.
