79,400 lose jobs so far in 2010

Dole queues continue to lengthen, according to the latest jobless figures

Some 79,400 people lost their jobs in the year to the end of June, according to figures from the Central Statistics Office.

Of that figure, 55,900 were men.

Today's figures show that by the second quarter of this year, more than 200,000 men and almost 94,000 women were out of work.

That brought the total number of unemployed to 293,600, an increase of 29,000 in the year.
