Unions and Government holding more pay talks
09/11/2009 - 07:33:45With time running out for agreement on €1.3bn in cuts to the public pay bill in next month's Budget, union leaders return to government buildings today for further discussions.
The talks take place against the background of the Taoiseach's weekend comments suggesting that radical changes will have to be made in the public service.
Brian Cowen said fundamental reforms will have to happen - and at a rapid pace.
Unions have warned that opposition to the planned budget cuts in the salaries and pensions of their members can only be averted if progress is made in the talks.
