SIPTU has accused the Government of using spin to muddy the atmosphere of public sector demands.

The comments come as both sides resume talks aimed at averting Thursday's threatened strike action.

Now the National Implementation Body is getting involved in the discussions.

Union representatives are proposing an alternative to a 6.85% pay cut worth €1.3bn being imposed across the board.

They propose savings through compulsory unpaid leave for up to 12 days a year for public servants.

SIPTU's head of Research Manus O'Riordan says people need to separate fact from fiction in the current debate.

"The Government has been party to peddling an untruth via certain media leaks… and that undoubtedly has muddied the atmosphere for proper engagement in the talks," O'Riordan said.
