454 children missing from state care in eight years
19/11/2009 - 07:13:37A total of 454 children went missing from state care between 2000 and 2008, a new report says.
The report, which will be launched this morning, examines the care of foreign national children who are in Ireland without a guardian. The study reveals that 23 children have disappeared this year alone.
In many instances they are not reported missing to gardaí.
Of the nine hostels inspected in the Ombudsman for Children report, only two were registered with seven found to be unsafe and unclean.
In some hostels children were left overnight with little or no adult supervision.
