CSO: Average 2007 earnings €20 per hour

Employees in Ireland earned an average of just over €20 an hour in October 2007, according to new figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

The statistics agency says men were earning an average of more than €21 an hour, while women were earning an average of less than €19 an hour.

The new figures also show that half of all employees earned less than €16.29.

Average hourly earnings in the public sector were €26.67, almost 50% higher than those in the private sector (€18.07)

The average working week in October 2007 was 34.4 hours
