Govt agrees talks schedule with public-sector unions

Government officials and union leaders have agreed a framework for a resumption of talks, to begin next week.

The sides held preliminary discussions at the Labour Relations Commission today where a basis for negotiations was agreed.

It is hoped the talks will bring about a resolution in the dispute over pay cuts and avert threatened strike action in the public sector.

The LRC chief executive Kieran Mulvey said the talks would begin on Monday and continue according to a two-week schedule.

He said he hoped this would lead to a successful conclusion.
