HSE warns of disruption to answering phones

27/02/2010 - 08:48:34
The HSE is today warning the public of disruption to phone services from next Tuesday as a result of industrial action by public servants.

The Executive also says it has been informed that the 'intensification' of the action will continue beyond next week - with less than 24 hours notice of disruption being given.

The HSE says the ban on answering telephones affecting IMPACT members will hit hospitals in the HSE Dublin North East Area on Tuesday between 9am and 1pm.

On Wednesday, HSE West will be affected, Thursday, HSE South and Friday, the HSE Dublin Mid-Leinster region.

However, phones in critical care areas including A&E departments and intensive care will be answered.

The HSE says IMPACT has also informed it that the industrial action will continue beyond next week and that generally less than 24 hours notice of disruption will be given.

The HSE says it will continue to monitor the situation closely next week, taking all the steps needed to minimise the impact of the action on patients.
