Public service to cease answering phones from 1pm

This afternoon will see a blanket ban imposed on answering calls across the entire civil service.

It kicks in from 1pm, and forms part of the ongoing industrial action by the Civil and Public Service Union in reaction to budgetary pay cuts.

It comes as IMPACT plans to impose rolling bans on phone answering across the health service from next week - including hospitals.
