Restrictions on water supply continue

16/01/2010 - 09:50:26
Restrictions to water supplies are continuing around the country today.

Parts of Clare, Kilkenny and Dublin are among the worst affected as local authorities battle to get water levels back to normal after the recent cold snap.

Local authorities around the country were forced to restrict water supplies in many areas because of increased demand during and after the recent cold spell.

Whilst many areas have returned to normal, a number of restrictions still apply.

Water is being turned off in Shannon all weekend between the hours of 12 noon and 5pm and from 8pm to 9am.

Kilkenny County Council is providing water tankers in a number of areas this weekend as a small number of people remain without water.

Residents are advised to boil any water collected at these points.

In Dublin, people have been queuing at Guinness tankers full of water.

The company says it immediately offered to help the city council when it emerged supplies were critically low.

Authorities are predicting it may take months for supplies to return to normal.
