Explosive device found in Clare


A viable Improvised Explosive Device was made safe in a house in Tulla, Co Clare last night, it has emerged.

The Defence Forces deployed to Main Street, Tulla at 11pm following a request from the Gardaí.

The area had been cordoned off by gardaí and local residents were evacuated to a safe location.

The scene was declared safe at the scene at 11.50pm. The remains of the device have been handed over to the Gardaí to assist with their investigations.

The discovery was made following the arrest of two males, aged 17 and 22 respectively, after a car was stopped and searched at Ballyblood, Tulla at approximately 4pm yesterday, during which drug paraphernalia and cartridges were found.

The gardaí conveyed the pair to Killaloe Garda station where they are being detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 as amended.
