Exchequer returns 3% ahead of projections

Tax take for the first 10 months of the year is running slightly ahead of target, according to the Department of Finance.

The department said €28.35bn was generated by the end of October, which is more than €1.6bn or 6.3% ahead of the same time last year.

It is also €96m, or point 3%, ahead of projections.

The Exchequer returns also show that three of the big sources of tax revenue - income, VAT and corporation tax - are performing well.

It means the deficit at the end of October stood at just over €14bn, down from more than €22bn in October 2011.
