Retired Bishop of Cloyne John Magee has appealed for privacy after further calls were made on him to respond to criticism of him in the Cloyne report.

The report examined the failures of the diocese to safeguard children from clerical sex abuse.

Dr Magee issued a statement this evening, echoing his comments on the day the report was published, saying he accepts full responsibility for the failure of the Diocese to manage allegations of abuse.

He also said he feels there is nothing he can say now which will ease the pain and distress for victims.

It emerged on Saturday that Bishop Magee had returned to the parish house provided to him by his diocese in Mitchelstown.
