ESB trying to restore power to 12,000 homes hit by storm

ESB technicians have worked through the night to restore power to homes affected by storms across the country.

Up to 12,000 customers in the midlands, west and north-west are still without power, with Mayo and Donegal the worst affected.

Falling trees and branches caused many of the faults.

A 23-year-old woman, Aisling Maguire, was killed when a tree uprooted and fell on her car in Mullingar, Co Westmeath, in a 150 kilometre per hour wind.

ESB crews are working to restore power to homes and businesses still affected by outages.

Customers can also check where power is out using the ESB power check website.
