ESB Networks is working to restore power to over 70,000 customers whose electricity supplies were disrupted as a result of last night’s storms.

ESB Networks is working to restore power to over 70,000 customers whose electricity supplies were disrupted as a result of last night’s storms.

Winds have caused extensive damage to the electricity network as a result of flying debris, fallen trees and broken poles.

While the damage is concentrated mainly in the south and west of the country, there are customers without supply throughout the country.

More than 500 individual faults have been recorded nationwide.

The worst affected areas include the following towns and surrounding areas: Killarney Dunmanway, Bandon, Tralee, Newcastle West, Enniscorthy, Cork City, Roscrea, Thurles, Ennis, Limerick, Athlone, Wexford, Kildare, Trim, Dunfirth (Co. Meath), Tullow, Cong (Co. Mayo) and Glenamaddy (Co. Galway).
