Engineering careers highlighted by sector's promotional campaign

Career opportunities in the engineering sector are in the spotlight in coming days.

Engineers' Week, starting today, highlights the role played by engineers and outlines potential to work in the sector.

Events are planned for around the country, until next Sunday, 15 February. The week is being co-ordinated by Engineers Ireland, which has almost 23,000 members.

The group's Director General John Power said there are plenty of opportunities for prospective engineers.

"There wouldn't be as many in the construction sector as there would be, for example, in the information technology sector, where there are a huge number of opportunities," he said.

"It's also worth pointing out there are now more opportunities for women in engineering than there ever have been in the past."
