Enda Kenny: Whistleblowers will be protected

The Taoiseach has said the Government will protect any whistleblower in the public service who brings to light evidence of wrong-doing.

Enda Kenny was responding to weekend reports about a civil servant in the Department of Finance who issued warnings about the property bubble which were ignored by her superiors.

Independent TD Shane Ross called on the Taoiseach to ensure that the woman in question is protected, and not punished for her actions.

Enda Kenny said the attitude of the Government had changed, and that those with opposing or alternative views would be protected.

"The Government are fully intent on giving full protection to anybody in the public service who brings issues to notice that should be in the public domain," he said.
