Enda Kenny: Cyprus bank levy will have no effects in Ireland

The Taoiseach has moved to reassure investors in Ireland that their money is not at risk due to events in Cyprus.

Speaking in Washington, Enda Kenny said the decision to tax depositors in Cypriot banks did not affect Ireland.

Describing Cyrpus as "a different and unique case", Enda Kenny said investors in Ireland had nothing to fear from the decision to tax depositors in Cypriot banks.

Investors are watching to see whether the decision will create a bank run in other bailout countries.

Mr Kenny also responded to reports today that he is taking direct control over reforms in the departments of health and social protection.

He said that he will not micro-manage government departments, but he will take a direct interest

in ensuring that reforms are put through.
