End of school half-days proposed

Efforts to make schooling more "parent-friendly" would see the end of half-days being given to children to facilitate teacher meetings and training.
Details of the new procedures, which would affect 90,000 workers in the education sector, are contained in a plan, prepared as part of the Croke Park agreement.
The Department of Education is also considering proposals to make teachers work an extra hour every week, and to monitor the workload of third-level lecturers.
