Element Six workers meet union representatives

Workers at the Element Six plant in Co Clare are meeting their union representatives today to discuss the redundancy terms being offered by the company.

Workers at the Element Six plant in Co Clare are meeting their union representatives today to discuss the redundancy terms being offered by the company.

Last week, the industrial diamond manufacturer told workers it had negotiated a rescue plan to save 240 jobs at the Shannon operation.

However, the plan has been thrown into doubt due to staff concerns about the redundancy package being offered to more than 200 others who will lose their jobs.

The workers say they will not cooperate with any job-saving proposals unless the company offers a better redundancy deal.

A ballot for industrial action may be discussed at today's meeting.
