Electric Ireland customers to save €20 a year with 2.5% price drop

Electric Ireland has announced a 2.5% decrease in its gas prices for homeowners and small businness customers.

The company's plan for a 2.5% cut means a saving of around €20 a year for customers.

The changes will come into effect from January 1.

This is Electric Ireland’s second residential gas price decrease this year, after a similar reduction last April which affected around 130,000 Electric Ireland gas customers..

Executive director of Electric Ireland Jim Dollard said: "We are particularly happy to be able to reduce gas prices ahead of January as it’s the month our customers use the most gas in their homes.

"This follows last month’s electricity price reduction and is Electric Ireland’s second gas price decrease this year for residential customers delivering a cumulative saving of €40 on the average annual residential gas bill."

Meanwhile SSE Airtricity is cutting its electricity price for 340,000 customers, cutting €23 a year from bills.

The moves have been welcomed by energy minister Alex White, who said it was important for customers to shop around for the best prices.
