Elderly man in court in connection with sexual offences over 13-year period
A 76 year old man has appeared in court charged with indecently assulting 10 boys over a 13 year period.
The 76-year-old man was arrested by members of the Sexual Crime Management Unit attached to the newly established Child Protection and Human Exploitation bureau.
The alleged offences are said to have occurred between 1977 and 1990.
The man was brought to Terenure garda station this morning, where he was charged.
Details of the alleged offences are expected to emerge when he appears before Judge Cormac Dunne this afternoon.
The court heard that the 76-year-old replied 'No Comment' to each of the 75 charges that were put to him at Terenure Garda Station this morning.
The man appeared in court this morning wearing a blue shirt, navy v-neck jumper, a sports jacket and trousers.
Gardaí have no objections to bail but a number of conditions have been put in place, which includes signing on in Terenure Garda Station once a week and surrendering his passport.
Gardaí have asked that the man would not interfere with the people interviewed as part of the investigation, Judge Cormack Dunne said that was implicit in the terms of bail.
The DPP expects the book of evidence to be served on July 28.
The case returns to court after lunch to deal with whether reporting restrictions should be in place.
