Elderly brothers violently attacked in their home

An appeal for information has been launched in relation to a violent attack on two elderly brothers at their Co Galway home.

At approximately 11pm, two male intruders entered the house and tied up the brothers.

The intruders had a firearm and threatened the brothers, demanding that they give them money.

After the intruders left the house, the two brothers remained bound for some time. Eventually one of the brothers managed to get free and raise the alarm.

Both intruders were Irish. One was approximately 5’5” in height and of medium build. The second male was taller than the first and also of medium build. Both were wearing balaclavas, dark clothes and runners.

Superintendent Gearoid Begley from Tuam garda station said: “We are anxious to speak to anyone who was in the area on the evening of Thursday, June 7 or the morning of Friday, June 8.

"People might remember that Thursday June 7 was a very wet night.

"Information which you think may not be relevant may turn out to be critical in helping us identify who is responsible for the vicious attack of these two elderly brothers”.

Anyone with any information has been urged to contact Crimestoppers on 1800 25 00 25 in the strictest of confidence.

Callers do not need to leave their name or address, but may receive a reward for information which significantly helps gardaí in their investigation.
