Economic plan to 2020 expected today
The Government is to outline its economic blueprint for the next seven years later today.
Cabinet ministers are expected to sign off on the document at their weekly cabinet meeting this morning, following the announcement by Enda Kenny in his live TV address on Sunday that it would be published this week.
It is likely to include measures to eliminate government borrowing by 2020.
It is also widely expected to point towards a cut in taxes to ease the burden on middle Ireland and working families.
"This is not a time for a change of direction or a change of course," Enda Kenny said on his way in to the Cabinet meeting this morning.
"Each Department will be required in the New Year to publish their own plans within the structure or the framework.
"This will be based on enterprise … [to] recover the jobs that were lost during the recession period."
Meanwhile, the Minister for Health James Reilly is also expected to present the HSE Service Plan for 2014 to Cabinet this morning.
It outlines how the health service plans to cope with almost €1bn less in funding next year.
The most difficult issue in the plan remains the savings from medical card probity, which is earmarked to save €113m by reviewing every single medical card currently issued.
