Dutch MEP claims UHI creates inequality in access to health care

An Independent Dutch MEP is in Dublin this morning to warn Ireland of the consequences associated with Universal Health Insurance.

Kartika Liotard is an expert on healthcare and the "Dutch Model" of UHI which came into affect in 2006.

She claims the system has created inequality in health care access.

The Minister for Health, James Reilly, plans to fully implement Universal Health Insurance in Ireland by 2019.

Ms Liotard says many Dutch citizens are struggling to keep up with the annual payments.
